The royal baby fever spreading across the country has given us a chance to celebrate mothers and motherhood.
Kate looked immaculate outside the hospital in her bright blue summer frock, which got us thinking about how best to dress a bump.
The dream maternity wardrobe should be lightweight and comfy, while being effortlessly cool and stylish. In reality this can be challenging – many pregnant women find it difficult to make the transition from skinny jeans and form-fitting dresses to rock a more casual relaxed look.
There can be a happy medium, however, as the secret is elongating your figure to create a natural silhouette. Wrap and tunic dresses are perfect as they are smart and sophisticated and usually in a jersey material, which is stretchy and thus more comfortable. The cleverly cut-knot front dress sported by the Duchess of Cambridge as she left hospital is a perfect example.
Select pieces that you can wear throughout your pregnancy and even again after the baby is born – not all clothing needs to come from maternity and you’ll be surprised at how much you can wear from regular sections. Remember you don’t have to ditch the denim altogether as maternity jeans worn with a vest and fluted sleeve tops can be dressed up or down, and are great for showing off a growing bump.
Once you get these basic pieces, make sure you accessorize to inject some of your personality into your look. Cute shoes and boots (yes, even heels) will give you height and make your legs appear slimmer. Team them with statement jewellery and accessories in the latest colour or print to feel bang on trend and make you a very yummy mummy!
